Co-op Athletics

Cooperative programs are formed when two schools are unable to sustain a sports program due to low interest or reduced funding of athletics, or when a school is interested in establishing a new sport for student-athletes.  The students play under the name of one team using the name, colors and mascot of the school sponsoring the cooperative.  Students attend their respective schools, but practice and compete in the sport together. The practice of cooperative teams allows students continued participation in a sport and can also build community and relationships between the two schools.

A cooperative sports program agreement, approved by the Minnesota State High School League, has been established between Cotter Schools and Winona Area Public Schools for the following sports:

  • Boys' and Girls' Swim & Dive
  • Boys' and Girls' Hockey
  • Boys' and Girls' Nordic Ski
  • Wrestling

A cooperative program has also been established between Cotter Schools and Hope Lutheran for the following sports:

  • Football
  • Boys' and Girls' Cross Country
  • Baseball
  • Boys' and Girls' Track & Field
